Not a lot of famous people think that it is a good idea to jump into the dog food industry.
Mainly because they don’t have the necessary skills.
That’s not the case for a great cook such as Rachael Ray.
That is why we will have our own Rachael Ray Dog Food Review.
It is unusual to review a dog food product that we know exactly the mastermind behind it.
That is both a marketing advantage and disadvantage.
If the dog food is good, then Rachael Ray is getting all the praise for it.
However, if anything goes wrong, it is not just a company that’s under fire, but a real human person.
That puts a lot of pressure on Rachael Ray to perfect her dog food recipes.
So, how does her dog food does in comparison with other brands in the industry?
Is it a good food that we’d recommend for your dogs?
Keep on reading to find out.
After being one of the most successful TV chefs in the world today, Rachael Ray decided to turn to making pet food.
Her brand, entitled Nutrish, has been around for about a decade now since its introduction in July 2008.
Some may even attribute the brand success as a best-seller to Rachael's name on the package.
The recipes are based on dog food that Rachael has prepared for Isaboo, her Pitbull.
A big portion of the proceeds from every purchase goes straight to Rachael’s Rescue, a charity that helps dog shelters and support a “no kill” policy.
The food is advertised as being free of poultry by-products, fillers, wheat.
However, other ingredients in the recipes tend to be more controversial.
According to many reviews, the quality of all formulas averages to a medium, with some recipes being very recommended and other not so much so.
That is why there are so many contradicting reviews found on the internet while researching Nutrish.
We will go through what makes people love and hate this dog food down below.
Many consumers and dog owners like to think that Nutrish is a great dog food and like to recommend it to their friends whenever possible.
That is one of the reasons why Nutrish is one Amazon’s list of best dog food sellers.
What other the other reasons?
One of the many reasons why Nutrish does so well with customers is that the chicken used is locally raised.
That and the chicken is used as the first ingredient in many recipes followed by a chicken meal.
It is true that chicken is 80%, which reduces the protein percentage it holds when it’s cooked.
However, when you follow that with a chicken meal that holds about 300% more protein, you give the recipe an above-average quality.
Most recipes provided by Rachael Ray Nutrish have a named source of meat as the first ingredient.
That tells more about the quality to expect from the brand.
It is a fact that not all major dog food manufacturers use meat as the first ingredient, let alone mention the source.
That is why many dog owners consider Nutrish a good quality dog food that they can trust.

As mentioned above, a portion of the proceeds goes straight to charities and associations that help make the world a better place for pets.
This goes for both dog and cat food that Rachael Ray has in the market.
This is why many people love to support this product as they know they are not only giving their dog good food, but they are also helping another dog somewhere in the world.
That feeling, especially for a dog lover, is priceless.
Having her face on each and every bag that you purchase is a reason why people love this dog food.
You can trust a face that you are familiar with, especially if their whole life has been around food.
Rachael is a successful woman with 3 TV shows, multiple best-selling cookbooks, and many awards that are too many to list here.
Anyone with a slight interest in cooking knows who she is, and you probably know her too.
With all the love coming from all sides, there are still some concerns.
Nutrish is not a perfect product, and we have to acknowledge that.
Many people have had a lot to say about the brand since its inception.
Some of those claims turned out to be true.
Here are few reasons in why Rachael Ray Nutrish may not be good for your dog.
The products of Nutrish are marketed as being free from filler ingredients, but we know that’s not true.
In fact, I don’t believe any dog food is truly filler-free.
Ingredients such as Rice, Soybean Meal, and Whole Grain Corn have virtually no additional value to the dog food.
Some of these may have plant-based proteins, but dogs aren’t likely to benefit much from these.
We try to recommend only the best dog foods out there.
However, we couldn’t find any recalls or ingredients that could mean Nutrish isn’t a good dog food.
Nevertheless, it is my duty to let you know that some dog owners have repeatedly spoken out against Rachael Ray’s dog food.
There are many claims that the recipes caused some illnesses ranging from minor diarrhea to serious kidney failure.
Please make sure to ask your vet before making a purchase or change your dog’s diet based on our recommendation.
Rachael Ray Nutrish has been adding more formulas and recipes to their products list. At this stage, according to their official website, there are as many as 30 dog food products.
These products are available in 3 categories; dry and wet dog foods and treats.
In this category, Nutrish is proud to provide 5 product lines to their customers and 11 recipes in total.
Each of them is rated differently based on the ingredients quality.
Some are just average while others can be considered premiums.
This is the main product line from Nutrish.
It has 3 recipes that are meat-first with no poultry by-products.
However, the three formulas in this line are poorly rated everywhere you look.
It even seems as if the only good thing about them is two first ingredients, which are usually a named source of meat and its meal.
As you can guess from the name, Just 6 is a dog food recipe based off only 6 ingredients.
As of now, Rachael Ray Nutrish has only one dry dog food in this line.
It is the Lamb Meal & Brown Rice recipe, and it is, according to DogFoodAdvisor, an average dog food.
Nutrish Dish is also an average dog food quality product line.
There are two recipes in this line.
The first recipe’s main ingredient is chicken while the second’s is beef.
As usual, Rachael Ray meat sources are U.S. farm-based to ensure maximum quality for the dogs.
Among the best that Rachael Ray Nutrish has to offer is the Zero Grain product line.
There are three dry food recipes that average a 4-star rating on most dog food review websites.
The recipes are either Turkey, Beef, or Salmon, and Potatoes.

The newest addition to Rachael Ray product lines (and also the best) is the Nutrish Peak line.
There are only 2 recipes that are considered premium quality and offered at a very competitive price.
Peak has been rated 4.5 stars many times.
Nutrish has only one line of wet dog food products.
However, there are 6 different recipes in that one line.
Although wet food is usually above-average quality, Rachael Ray’s Nutrish barely scores a 3.5-star rating.
There are a few gems in Rachael Ray’s product lines that are worth the money spent on them.
In fact, some are even considered premium while they are still at an affordable price.
Down below, we have a list of 5 products that we think are the best coming from Rachael Ray Nutrish.
These products have been chosen according to reviews, pricing, and ingredient quality.
Starting off the list with a controversial product, Nutrish Natural is not any expert’s favorite.
Yet, it is an Amazon Best-seller with over 1,500 positive reviews.
It could be the heavy advertisement and the availability of the food that’s making it popular, but the recipe is not that bad either.
In fact, Nutrish Natural uses chicken that is U.S. farm-raised.
This immediately makes the meat quality above-average.
To compensate the 80% water in the chicken, Rachael Ray uses the chicken meal as the second ingredient.
Here are the pros and cons:
The controversy seems to be that experts believe the overall quality of the food is barely average while customers tend to think their dogs do well on this food.
That is why we are giving it a 3-star rating.
Rachael Ray Nutrish wet dog food is available in a pack of 6.
You get two trays of 3 recipes that are my favorite.
So, this is basically a way to cheat the list.
This pack includes the Chicken Paw Pie, Hearty Beef Stew, and Savory Lamb Stew.
All 3 recipes have been rated 3.5 stars on different occasions.
That’s because, although the ingredient quality is not that high, the pricing is much more affordable.
Here are the pros and cons:
As previously stated, I like this pack as it is a money saving and the food is relatively good.
That is why I am rewarding Rachael Ray’s Nutrish Wet dog food a 3.5-star rating.
This limited ingredient recipe from Rachael Ray could have been their best if they included better protein sources.
The 6 ingredients (+ vitamins) make it a great recipe for your dog.
It is also gluten and corn free.
It has almost no fillers in it.
This makes Just 6 one of the best dry dog foods already.
It is always best to avoid fillers as much as possible as they have no nutritional value whatsoever.
Here are the pros and cons:
Although this recipe has not received as many praises from other sources, I do consider it an above-average recipe.
That is why Nutrish Just 6 is receiving a 3.5-stars rating as well.
Dish is a premium product line that Nutrish has received a lot of praise for.
This dog food does an amazing job, according to many dog owners.
Their dogs seem to enjoy its taste very much.
According to Dog food Advisor, the two recipes in the Nutrish Dish product line are a slightly above-average quality dog food.
As we favor the Chicken over the beef recipe, we appreciate that the chicken is U.S. farm-raised and used as the first ingredient.
Here are the pros and cons:
Based on our research, we like how this recipe is.
Rachael Ray Nutrish Dish Real Chicken is a good choice for your dog.
It is a 4-star premium dog food.
Another Amazon Best-seller, Peak is the newest addition to Nurtrish’s product lines.
It is also considered their best as it fits all AAFCO food regulations (which all other dog foods do, by the way), while still being good for the dog.
Companies try their best to find loopholes in the regulations.
It is good to see a dog food that’s not trying that.
This formula is grain and gluten-free while the first ingredient used is Beef.
Of course, the beef is U.S. farm-raised as a way to provide the best quality ingredients for dogs.
Here are the pros and cons:
Accordingly, we do, indeed, recommend this dog food as the best recipe from Nutrish.
That is why we are awarding Rachael Ray’s Nutrish Peak a 4.5-star rating.
Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food is a controversial brand.
One would assume that Rachael Ray, a renowned chef, would be more interested in making recipes that are always premium.
Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Yet, some of the recipes seem to be highly recommended.
As usual, before you make any diet change, please consult with your vet.
They should be able to tell you more about the food that fits your dog’s need the most.

Our Rachael Ray dog food review can only be concluded with mentioning how popular the product is. Dog owners love the ingredients just as much as their dogs. The price is within range, and it doesn’t hurt that some of it goes to charity.
While the company has raised some red flags in the past, Rachael Ray is still the lovable, trusted face of the company.
